Design underpins everything we do as makers. We may have fabulous skills in our chosen craft area, however without Design knowledge we may struggle to move our work forward and our ability to create truly unique pieces.

In a series of self-directed, video rich online courses, Kate Horner is going to teach you her personal approach to Design, as it is taught at ArtyBird Carnforth.

Each module is £250.00.

The first module is Colour. As textile makers, colour is a vital tool to our creativity, but we can sometimes get a little stuck or feeling we are re-treading the same ideas.  That is where DESIGN can come in!

Design: Colour

Design for Textile Makers - Colour

In the course you’ll be guided through mixing colours based on a project you are currently involved in, and how you can explore those colours with exercises focused on observation and experimentation.

The second module is Shape. When making textiles, composition helps us to communicate our creative ideas.  It can be really easy to simply work with our first idea.  Yet we miss a real chance to explore our ideas around shape and space.  That is where DESIGN can help!

Design for Textile Makers - Shape

In the course you'll be guided through exercises, based on a project you are currently involved in, to help you explore how shape affects your compositions and design in textiles.

Design for Textile Makers - Line

Line refers to a continuous mark made on a surface that defines space, contours, and outlines, creating texture and direction, and guiding the viewer's eye through a composition.. You will be guided through series of exercises that will help you explore Line
